At Pure Scentsations Candle Company, we want to ensure everyone makes the best choice possible when it comes to choosing the candle that is right for him or her. That is why we created this section of the website. It gives a somewhat brief description of why beeswax is the "bees knees" (see what I did there? ) and the hazards associated with other types of waxes, dyes, and fragrances.

Beeswax is the most pure wax in existence. It is truly a gift from nature and only needs to be filtered before used to make our 100% pure beeswax candles. There are numerous benefits, which are listed below:

•    A cleaner burn without the sticky soot that toxic paraffin candles produce
•    They have a natural scent of honey that freshens the air in your house, office, or wherever you may have your candle
•    The burn time is extended much longer than other types of waxes
•    As long as it is not a drafty room, beeswax candles do not drip
•    They create a beautifully warm glow and will not go rancid over time

How do beeswax candles clean the air?

When you burn a Pure Scentsations Candle Company 100% pure beeswax candle, you are releasing negative ions into the air. Since pollen, dust, and other pollutants are positively charged, these negative ions cause them to fall to the ground. Coupled with your routine house cleaning, beeswax candles provide a feel of freshness that other candles simply cannot compete with.

What’s wrong with paraffin candles?

That bulk package of tealights that you can buy in the store for a few bucks are most likely made from paraffin, which is a by-product of petroleum refining. When burned, they produce a very toxic product that is literally poisoning the air you, your loved ones, and your furry little critters are breathing. Paraffin wax begins as a sludgy mess at the bottom of a barrel of crude oil. Once it is extracted, it is bleached and treated with other various carcinogens. The color and fragrance added are not much better, as these tend to be toxic as well. Paraffin candles also leave black soot stains on walls or ceilings over time. The next time you buy a candle, be sure you know exactly what it is you’re getting.

What to watch for when making your candle purchases

Before making your purchase be sure that it clearly states that it is 100% pure beeswax. Just because it says “pure” on the packaging does not mean it is. For candles to be labeled as pure, they only need to consist of 51% beeswax. Companies will often make a blend of 51% beeswax and 49% paraffin to cut corners and save on costs. You should be looking for a phrase such as “100% pure beeswax”. Do not be alarmed at the price difference between 100% pure beeswax candles and paraffin or even soy candles. While it may cost more, you also getting a longer and cleaner burn from them.

You should also take note of what the wick is made of. Many candles that are made in China might contain some sort of metal wire within the core of the wick. Burning these candles will pollute your home with its toxins as well. Candles with a wooden or 100% cotton wick are often the way to go.

Wait… What about soy candles?

While soy candles are a better alternative to paraffin, it still has its issues. The first is that even though a candle may be made of 100% soy, it is still processed with a small trace of paraffin. Therefore, burning a soy candle will still release a small amount of toxins from that paraffin. You’ll also want to be cautious about the dyes and fragrances that are in soy candles. More likely than not, you won’t find a high quality 100% beeswax candle that has been dyed a different color. The dye itself can often contain toxins that defeat the whole purpose of a beeswax candle. This is why Pure Scentsations Candle Company avoids the use of dyes altogether. Something else to take into consideration is the fact that the soy crops were most likely sprayed with some form of pesticide, which of course is also toxic.

Are beeswax candles worth the price tag?

Of course they are! And I am not just saying that because we sell them. There is nothing more important than you and your family’s well-being. Would you rather pay to poison your home with paraffin candles or invest in a high quality 100% pure beeswax candle that provides health benefits? Beeswax is the obvious choice here, and I am sure you will agree too once you have tried them!
